Family History… More than just names and dates.

Posted on

I used to think that genealogy was boring. But that was before I'd done anything with it yet. Now that it has become addicting to me.... I hear others who have the same complaints that I had (before I got into it). so, I wantedt to take a name from my pedigree sheet and try to bring it to life. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has the largest genealogical library in the world. This is evidence of the importance the Church puts on genealogical work (now more commonly referred to as Family History). The reason for such interest in ancestors comes from doctrines of the Church. Mormonism teaches that after death, a person's spirit still has the opportunity to learn about the gospel, and accept Jesus Christ as his Redeemer. But in order for him to become a member of Christ's Church, he must be baptized and have other saving ordinances performed in his behalf. This is the job of those who are still living. In temples, members are baptized, or have other ordinances done, on behalf of those who have passed away (such work is said to be done "by proxy"). This gives that person, if he chooses to accept it, the opportunity to become a member of the Church. Every person who has ever lived has a right to make such an important choice. Members of the Church are strongly encouraged to only perform ordinances for people from their own family lines, and to obtain permission from surviving descendants of the recently deceased. 1. very well done

  2. You’ve done an awesome job. I’ve recently been called as our ward FH Consultant, I find it a challenging calling as most of the members don’t want to engage in this work. My grandfather loved FH and dedicted his retired life to this work, I just hope that I can make him proud… I guess I need to keep praying and fasting and I should get everyone in the ward actively participating. Thanks again for the awesome clip, so inspirational.

  3. By the way… if you want a couple of posters that I made too, just send me a message

  4. @vikkoblumen @vikkoblumen Thanks for your comment… and I feel the same way. There is nothing like connecting the pedigree chart and finding out who your ancestors were. WhenI was growing up, my parents showed me pics of my ancestors. To me they looked like a bunch of Hillbillies. Today, after finding out more about them, I can look at those same pics without turning into a girly-man. BTW…the updated version of this vid. is called “Family History – Out of the Dust… to Life”

  5. Very nice presentation.

I always wonder why people keep pointing at us because of the polygamy and Joseph Smith, and why are they so blind to see the most important which is all the marvelous things the restoration of the gospel has been brought to us !

Jesus certainly came to America, and indeed he give us the keys to work for the benefit of our beloved deaths. I always dream about them, as I am the only one in family who is still active, and they remind me to help them.

    Saludos

  9. I served an LDS mission in Salt Lake helping others with their genealogy and worked on my own. I love my family! They are more then just names on paper and in census records. They lived, worked hard and died. I love them! Genealogy rocks! It’s so not even boring. Great video!

  10. Could I use your video for a family history class. Could you send it to me?
    Thank you
